In the year 1975, away from the ceaseless bustle of trading yards, the crisscross of trains passing through Vijayawada Junction, and the majestic gush of the Krishna waters through the spillways of the Prakasam Barrage, some of the best minds came together for a noble cause in Vijayawada. These visionaries, each a pinnacle of achievement in their fields—medicine, engineering, accounting, jurisprudence, industry, and business—united with a shared purpose. They were all sons of the soil, who had experienced the travails of traveling to distant lands in pursuit of education. With their native intelligence and commitment, they laid the foundation for a transformative journey in education, both in the physical and intellectual realms.
They convened with a vision: to create educational awareness and meet the region's growing needs. At the time, Vijayawada lacked even a single postgraduate or professional institution. Thanks to their efforts, Vijayawada transformed from an intellectual desert into a vibrant educational hub, reminiscent of the ancient Nalanda. This led to the birth of the Academy of General and Technical Education.
The Academy has worked tirelessly to empower young minds, not just with qualifications for jobs but also with the strength of character, a spirit of philosophy, and the courage of a lion—a holistic development of an individual. They believe that education forms character, strengthens the mind, expands intellect, and enables one to stand independently, embodying the spirit of Swami Vivekananda’s teachings. Their mission has been to impart life-building, character-assimilating ideas across all their institutions.
Since its inception, the Academy has been dedicated to establishing quality educational institutions with excellent infrastructure. Today, it employs over 1,200 dedicated faculty members and serves 21,050 students across its institutions. These efforts have turned the Academy into a veritable university in its mission to serve education.
The Academy has also made significant contributions beyond education. In 1989, it founded Siddhartha Kala Peetham to promote Indian arts and culture. Additionally, the Siddhartha Foundation, a charitable society with a corpus fund of ₹10 million, was established to support deserving students in need, regardless of background.
